Maintenance, whether planned or unexpected, is always costly. According to a recent report from the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), "An Analysis of the Operational Costs of Trucking: 2020 Updates" over the past ten (10) years, these costs have consistently made up between 8% and 10% of a fleet's average cost per mile. With this in mind, it's not surprising that fleet owners work hard to protect their trucks from unforeseen breakdowns and look for ways to lower overall maintenance costs.
In support of those efforts we are excited to formally introduce the latest application of our highly advanced nanodiamond technology -- Engine Oil Additive FM-Protect™. This engine oil additive works differently from other oil additives currently on the market. By infusing an SAE-rated semi-synthetic engine oil with our detonation nanodiamonds, Engine Oil Additive FM-Protect™ delivers measurable improvement in engine performance within 48 hours (and often immediately) and offers long-term equipment protection with continued use.
How does it work?
Detonation nanodiamonds possess a unique set of properties:
True nanoscale size, beginning at 4-9 nanometers (nm) and agglomerating to about 50 nm, smaller than some molecules
Extreme surface area to weight ratio of 350-400 square meters per gram
Surface functional groups that make nanodiamonds catalytic
Surface charge of approximately -70 millivolts
Powerful surface tension as the result of free electrons “bonding” with adjacent atoms
When detonation nanodiamonds are placed in engine oil these properties operate to produce surprising results:
Nanodiamond crystals, carrying engine oil adsorbed (held) on their surface, fill-in irregularities in the metal crystal surfaces of contacting parts such as bearings and crankshafts, connecting rods and crankshafts, connecting rods and piston pins, camshafts and the valve train, and piston rings and cylinder walls. Over time this makes these surfaces diamond hard and permanently lubricated, reducing wear.
Nanodiamond crystals infiltrate the fuel stream through the EGR valve and become a part of the fuel charge. In a diesel engine they break down NOx created in the compression/detonation stroke freeing oxygen which improves combustion efficiency. This results in more efficient fuel burning (up to 40% better) increasing fuel economy, reduction of NOx emissions by up to 40%, decreasing total emissions including soot (a major contaminant of the additive package), and reducing consumption of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) used for treating NOx emissions.
By increasing the life of the additive package through the reduction in soot, engine oil (additive package) life is extended by 40% or more significantly increasing the interval between oil changes
Other maintenance and operating costs are significantly reduced including cleaning of the Diesel Particulate Filter, use of fuel to burn off soot in the regeneration cycle, and frequency of engine overhauls.
Our cost analysis model indicates that use of our nanodiamond engine oil additive produces a net reduction in operating expenses of one to two cents per mile. (Savings on engine maintenance is additional.)
Our claims are backed-up by experience and testing. For example:
Petro Lubricant Testing Laboratories, Inc. measured the difference in performance between plain oil and oil with nanodiamonds.
Our engine oil additive has been used by two NASCAR teams. The Crew Chief for both teams reported: (a) No engine damage during races so that only mandatory rebuilds were performed, (b) The dynamometer measured horsepower was increased by 1% (6 HP), and (c) The engine ran cool enough that he was able to tape over part of the radiator to reduce wind resistance.
SAE J-1321 testing was performed at Texas A&M Transportation Institute which confirmed a fuel economy improvement of 1.18%. It also revealed the suppression of soot formation when the test vehicle was unable to perform a regeneration cycle as no soot was available after 1,500 miles hauling a 60,000 lb. load.
Perhaps you are thinking, “That’s all well and good, but what's it going to cost me?
The out-of-pocket cost depends upon two things: (1) the engine oil capacity and (2) the quantity of additive purchased. For older engines we recommend using Engine Oil Additive FM – Conditioner™ one time and switching to Engine Oil Additive FM – Protect™ for each subsequent oil change. Based upon a single purchase, the cost based upon oil capacity is:

However, the Return on Investment (ROI) exceeds 100% and is dependent three factors: average fuel economy, cost of DEF, and cost of fuel. For example, the lower the fuel economy (measured in MPG), results the higher the ROI. With an oil change every 25,000 miles, fuel economy of 6.0 MPG, and diesel fuel cost at $2.95/gallon the ROI is approximately 142%. ROI is measured as follows: (Savings – Cost of Additive)/Cost of Additive.
We are extending a limited-time no-cost offer to fleet managers from now until the end of 2021. This trial includes:
Independent oil condition and contaminant testing prior to the initial oil change and subsequent to the oil change following use of Engine Oil Additive FM Protect™. (Engine Oil Additive FM - Conditioner™ may be used based upon engine condition).
The trial may include up to four (4) vehicles and lasts a minimum of 25,000 miles per vehicle depending upon the oil change interval employed.
We ask that a record be kept of DEF consumption and regeneration requirements and, if feasible, fuel consumption and miles driven between fill-ups.
What are you waiting for? Annual savings of approximately $1,000 net per 100,000 miles driven can really add-up over an entire fleet.
